Posthumous award for our graduate
The President of Ukraine awarded the Order of the Golden Star to the family of the fallen soldier, Victor Stelmach, a graduate of the National University of Water Management and Nature Management in the specialty of 'Field Development and Extraction of Mineral Resources.'
On October 11, the heroic deed of Junior Sergeant Victor Stelmach from the Politska community was honored at the state level. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky presented the Order of the Golden Star to his relatives — his parents and wife — which was awarded to the soldier posthumously.
The title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star was conferred upon Victor Stelmach on February 21, 2025, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 105/2025 — for exceptional courage and heroism demonstrated in defense of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state.
Victor Stelmach was born on January 19, 1995, in the village of Ivanchi in the Rivne region. He studied at the Volodymyretsky District Collegium and later at the National University of Water Management and Nature Management in the Department of Field Development and Mining, where he earned a degree in mining engineering.
With the onset of the full-scale invasion, Victor took up the defense of his homeland as part of the 68th Separate Yeger Brigade named after Oleksa Dovbush. He completed surveyor courses and training as an operator of strike drones (FPV). In November 2023, after leaving the service, he founded an FPV drone school together with the LesiaUa Foundation, where he taught everyone who wanted to learn. He later continued to assist his brigade by supplying drones to the front.
In September 2024, he returned to the front lines — now as the commander of the 2nd reconnaissance unit of strike unmanned aerial systems. On October 18, 2024, the 29-year-old warrior, call sign Saba, died while carrying out a combat mission near Selidove in Donetsk region — from an attack by an enemy FPV drone.
During his service, Victor Stelmach was awarded the 'Golden Cross' and the 'Sign of Honor.'
The memory of the Hero, who defended Ukraine until the last moment, will forever remain in the hearts of his relatives, comrades, faculty members, and university staff, for whom his courage became an example of true devotion to the homeland and a model for future generations.
