International Project Warifa
On August 28, an extended meeting of participants in the European project WARIFA (Watching the Risk Factors) took place at NUVHP, which will be implemented within the EU Horizon program. This large-scale project involves leading universities, medical centers, and public organizations from 7 European countries, including Norway, Finland, Spain, Italy, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine. Project teams from NUVHP, the NGO "100% Life," the Rivne Regional Clinical Hospital named after Yu. Semenyuk, and John Chelsom participated in the event.Seven InformaticsVadym Terentiyuk, head of the telemedicine development department at the State Enterprise "Electronic Health" of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The project is aimed at utilizing artificial intelligence for the personalization of prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. The National University of Water Management and Nature Management serves as a key Ukrainian academic partner, responsible for integrating clinical data, developing mobile applications and a portal for doctors, creating algorithms based on large language models and training, as well as conducting joint research in Rivne.
The Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations, Natalia Savina, noted: "WARIFA allows for the integration of advanced digital solutions in medicine and education. This is a unique opportunity for NUVHP to contribute to the development of telemedicine in Ukraine and the European digital health space."
The project selection results are expected in January 2026. If successful, its implementation will begin in September 2026.
WARIFA has an ambitious goal – to provide citizens with access to personalized recommendations for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and melanoma, and to offer doctors tools for optimizing diagnosis and treatment. For Ukraine, this means:
· implementation of modern telemedicine approaches;
- creation of infrastructure for secure data exchange according to European standards (GDPR, EHDS, AI Act);
· engaging doctors and patients in co-creating digital solutions;
· development of the regional center for medical innovations in Rivne.
The initiator of WARIFA, Professor John Chelsom, emphasizes: “WARIFA is not just an innovative technology. It is a new approach to healthcare, where both the patient and the doctor have equally powerful tools to prevent diseases. Ukraine has enormous potential in the field of digital health, and NUWGP is a key partner in its implementation.”
Projects like WARIFA are an example of how science, technology, and international cooperation can change people's lives and shape a sustainable future for healthcare.
