Excursion to the Library of Slovak Agricultural University
As part of the internship and training program, teachers from the NNIAZ visited the scientific library of the Slovak Agricultural University and met with its director Mgr. Beata Bellerova, PhD.
The university library has a wide range of information sources, including books, journals, scientific articles, databases, electronic resources, and more, providing a broad spectrum of services for students and teachers that assist them in their studies and research. This was confirmed by Professor of the Department of Ecology, TZS and LG, Doctor of Biological Sciences Olga Biedunkova and Associate Professor of the Department of Aquatic Bioresources, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Alina Petruk.
The library director shared experiences regarding teaching students to effectively use library resources and databases, offering services that help students engage with other users, such as book clubs, reading groups, lectures, and other events. She also highlighted the features of the library's support for student learning, particularly exam preparation, training in academic writing, information literacy courses, and others. The university library also offers various services for researchers, such as assistance in information retrieval, training in database usage, access to specialized research tools, and access to unique manuscripts and archival materials.
During the meeting, they discussed the publication activity of teachers and students in higher education institutions in Slovakia, Armenia, and Ukraine. They outlined common problems and ways to solve them. Special attention was given to the issues of academic plagiarism and the development of plagiarism policies. They exchanged experiences on organizing training sessions for students on proper citation, the use of information sources, and the preparation of bibliographies. They reached a consensus on the importance of an ethical approach to using information sources and avoiding plagiarism.
Thus, the excursion to the library of the Slovak Agricultural University was a valuable event for the participants of the AFISHE project, as it provided new ideas for searching and using information source resources, encouraged students toward independent analysis and critical thinking, and developed procedures to reduce academic plagiarism.
