AFISHE on the path to collaboration with local communities
On May 9, 2023, as part of the science festival at NUVHP, an online meeting took place between Professor of the Department of Water Bioresources Serhiy Konontsev and representatives of the united territorial communities of Rivne region on the topic "Prospects for the implementation of intensive aquaculture technologies within the UTC and its socio-economic significance for communities."
During the meeting, the international grant project Erasmus+ KA2 AFISHE "Development of Education in Aquaculture and Fishing for the Green Deal in Armenia and Ukraine: from Education to Ecology" was presented, in which NUVHP participates. The meeting with UTC representatives was organized by acting head of the Department of Public Administration, Administration and Information Activities Tikhonchuk L.Kh.
The main goal of the meeting was to familiarize UTC representatives with the advantages of modern intensive aquaculture technologies and the possibility of creating a fish farming enterprise within the community using the latest technologies, with the consultative support of NUVHP researchers. Konontsev S.V. reported that, thanks to the implementation of the international grant project AFISHE, NUVHP will have the opportunity to prepare specialists with Master's degrees in aquaculture production using the latest technologies for each community based on an updated educational program.
This project has important socio-economic significance, as communities can grow these products to ensure quality nutrition for children in schools and preschool institutions. At the same time, creating additional jobs, using local raw materials for feed production, and increasing production volumes to economically justified levels will allow the community to develop a profitable business.
Representatives from the communities of Rivne region (Sosnivska Village Council, Zdovbytska Village Council, Ostroh Territorial Community, Zoryanska Village Council, Demydivs'ka Settlement Council, Korets'ka City Territorial Community, Bereznevska City Council, Velikomezhrichka Village Council, Babynska Territorial Community) participated in the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, interested representatives of the communities noted down the contact details of the AFISHE project team, as further steps are to follow detailed discussions within the UTC and collective decision-making.
