General Information

Department of Architecture and Environmental Designbegins in1969year, when the department of building architecture and hydraulic structures was established at the university. In2000the year it was named 'Department of Architecture', and in2013it was reorganized into the modern department of architecture and environmental design. The department is a graduation department for the specialty G17 'Architecture and Urban Planning' (bachelor's and master's levels).

The department has been headed by: candidate of architecture, professorS.B. Barats(1969–1986), doctor of architecture, professorO.I. Kuzmych(1986–1989), doctor of architecture, professorP.A. Rychkov(1989–1994, 2005–2014), professor, honored architect of UkraineO.M. Yurchuk(1994–2005). Since 2014, the department has been headed by doctor of architecture, professorO.L. Mykhailyshyn.The teaching staff consists of experienced architects and researchers who combine pedagogical, research, and project activities.

A postgraduate program operates at the department, and scientific research is conducted on the history and practice of architecture, particularly the heritage of Western Ukraine. The lecturers have prepared a number of monographs, doctors and candidates of architecture. The department collaborates with architectural schools in Ukraine and Europe.

The educational disciplines cover architectural design, urban studies, landscape and environmental design, history and theory of architecture. Students actively participate in competitions, receive scholarships and grants, and their graduation works have been repeatedly acknowledged at the national level. The department's lecturers are initiators of scientific and international projects that contribute to the preservation and popularization of architectural heritage.
