The institute began its activity in 1964 as a construction faculty. In connection with the opening of a new specialty«Architecture of buildings andstructures» In 2003, it was renamed the Faculty of Construction and Architecture. With the aim of optimizing and reforming the structure of the university, in 2013, a training and research institute for construction and architecture was established based on the faculty. The institute received its latest name in 2025 in connection with the opening of a new specialty.«Design». Currently, the institute consists of 11 departments, 6 certified research laboratories, a research and production business center, and an energy efficiency center.

The institute trains students in six specialties:

·         B12 «Cultural Studies andmuseum studies»

·         B2 «Design»

·         G17 «Architecture andurban planning» 

·         G19 «Construction and Civil Engineeringengineering»

·         G21 «Biotechnology andbioengineering»                             

·         J4 «Security work»

During the years of the institute's existence, strong international connections have been established with educational institutions in Poland, Slovakia, Germany, and other countries.
