Scientific Activity

The department conducts scientific research on the topic:
“Research on current problems of the history, theory, and practice of architecture, architectural environment design, and urban planning”.

The department has a postgraduate program in the specialty18.00.01 – “Theory of architecture, restoration of architectural monuments”(accredited by the decision of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance from 13.10.2020).

The founder of the scientific school is Doctor of Architecture, ProfessorRichkov P.A.Under his supervision, one Doctor of Architecture and four Candidates of Architecture have been trained. The main scientific direction of research is the architectural and urban heritage of Western Ukraine.

Under the supervision of Dr. Arch., Prof.Mykhailyshyn O.L.a dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Architecture was completed by the citizen of Libya R.R.M. Aljad (defended in 2019).

The scientific achievements of the department's teachers: Dr. Arch., Prof. Richkov P.A. – author of six monographs; Dr. Arch., Prof. Mykhailyshyn O.L. – author of three monographs; Assoc. Prof. Lushnikova N.V. – author of one monograph. As of September 2025, 5 postgraduates are studying at the department's postgraduate program.

The scientific and academic achievements of the department’s teachers have been recognized at international, national, regional, and local levels.

Dr. Arch., Prof. Mykhailyshyn O.L.was awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Department of Education and Science of Rivne Regional State Administration (2010) and a Certificate of Honor from the Rivne City Council and Executive Committee (2014).

Dr. Arch., Prof. Richkov P.A.has been recognized:

• By the certificate of the architectural mini-park “Mini-Mundus” and the Austrian Society “Children’s Rescue” for creating the model “Mausoleum Gur Emir” (1998);

• By the certificate of the Henry Ford Foundation in the field of restoration for the work “Mini-reconstruction of the Kyiv Municipal Duma” (1998);

• By the certificate of “Mini-Mundus” and the Society “Children’s Rescue” for creating the model “Church of St. Barbara” (1999);

• By the diploma of a corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture (02.11.2006);

• By the first-degree diploma of the XXI review-competition of diploma projects for the series of collections “Architectural Heritage of Volyn”, issue 1–3 (2012);

• By the badge “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” No. 92255 (01.11.2011);

• By the Certificate of Honor from the Rivne Regional State Administration for many years of conscientious work and high professionalism (23.10.2014).

PhD, Assoc. Prof. Lushnikova N.V.was awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Rectorate and Trade Union Committee of NUWGP (2006) and a Certificate from the Department of Education and Science of Rivne Regional State Administration (2008).

Assoc. Prof. Sholudko M.V.was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of architecture (2006), the first-degree diploma from the Ministry of Regional Development of Ukraine (2011) for the best object of 2010 — educational and production complex with dormitory at 17 Pidkovy St. in Rivne, as well as a Certificate of Honor from the Rivne City Council and Executive Committee (22.10.2014).

The department maintains scientific and creative contacts with the architectural faculties of Lublin Polytechnic, Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, National University “Lviv Polytechnic”, Kharkiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Kharkiv National University of Municipal Economy named after O.M. Beketov, Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, as well as with other architectural schools in Ukraine and abroad.
