Legal clinicis a structural division of the Educational and Research Institute of Law and Humanities of the National University of Water Management and Nature Resources and serves as a base for training and conducting practice for students specializing inD8 Law.
The activity of the Legal Clinic is aimed at combining the theoretical training of higher education seekers with practical legal activities, forming professional competencies of future lawyers, and ensuring access to legal assistance for socially vulnerable groups of the population.
Main areas of activity
The Legal Clinic of the Educational and Research Institute of Law and Humanities provides primary legal assistance and free legal consultations on the protection of human rights and freedoms in all areas of law in accordance with current legislation in Ukraine for socially vulnerable segments of the population.
The mission of the Legal Clinic- is to facilitate practical training of law students, develop the legal awareness of the population, and ensure access to justice for socially disadvantaged categories of citizens.
The Legal Clinic provides the following services:
· free provision ofprimarylegal assistance to citizens;
· legal consulting and assistance in drafting legal and procedural documents;
· conducting legal awareness and legal clarification events;
· organizing training sessions, master classes, and court simulation processes for students;
· collaboration with government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and educational establishments.
The goal of the clinic's activities is to nurture a new generation of lawyers with an awareness of the important role of a defender in society, an understanding of social issues, and a desire to ensure access to free legal aid and fair justice for vulnerable citizens.
The quality of legal aid provision is ensured by continuous methodological support and control from educators and practicing specialists, as well as compliance with the standards of the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine.
Clinic students have the opportunity to:
· independently draft procedural documents;
· analyze the content and progress of specific cases;
· formulate and substantiate legal positions;
· participate in citizen receptions under the guidance of educators and practicing lawyers.
The legal clinic aims to go beyond traditional forms of clinical education, therefore its structure includes the following sectors:
1. the attorney activities sector;
2. sector of practical training organization;
3. mediation sector;
4. sector of legal education, legal clarification, and scientific research activities.
Advocacy and mediation directions
The Law Clinic has a group of lawyers, including practicing attorneys and teachers: Yuriy Vovk, Yuliya Shcherbyak, Dmytro Pukha, Oleg Zrazhevskyi, Dmytro Lyashko, Vitaliy Parkhomenko.
Together with students, they provide free legal consultations to citizens from socially vulnerable groups.
The curatorial group of mediators includes Tetiana Vodiapyan, a professional certified mediator, and Yuliya Melnychuk, a mediator. Mediation as an effective out-of-court dispute resolution method is actively integrated into the educational and practical activities of the clinic.
A memorandum of cooperation has been signed between NUVHP and the North Carolina Mediation Center (USA). Joint initiatives are aimed at promoting mediation and spreading knowledge about alternative dispute resolution methods.
Achievements of the partnership
Clinic students actively participate in scientific and practical events, seminars, round tables, competitions, and trainings. A significant achievement was the entry of the Law Clinic team into the top 16 teams at the 2020 Student Competition for Effective Dispute Resolution, supported by the National Association of Mediators of Ukraine and the OSCE in Ukraine.
A feature of the clinic’s activities is the presence of a branch based on the Western Interregional Center for Providing Free Legal Assistance, which expands the opportunities for practical training of students and collaboration with practicing professionals.
📌Since 2025, the Law Clinic of the NNIHPN NUVHP has been a member of the Association of Law Clinics of Ukraine, confirming that its activities meet national standards of clinical legal education.
