Success at the International Olympiad in Recreation Studies
Bachelor's level student in her third year of study in the specialty 'Tourism and Recreation', Sofia Soyko, won third place at the International Olympiad in Recreation, held at the Odesa National University of Technology.
The semifinal and final stages required participants to demonstrate significant creativity and substantial professional knowledge. The first creative task was to prepare a slide or video presentation. Participants received the topic two days before the final. This year, the topic proposed was: 'Virtual Recreation: Can VR Replace Nature?'. The next stage involved testing theoretical knowledge in an online format, which included 30 professional questions.
During the preparation of her creative project, Sofia conducted her own research using a Google survey to determine what is more important for modern tourists — the visual component of the digital environment or emotions and live communication. Anyone interested can participate in the survey or familiarize themselves with its results via the provided link.
The scientific and methodological support for the student's preparation was provided by Margarita Yakovyshyna, a senior lecturer at the Department of Tourism and Hotel-Restaurant Management, who also leads the scientific club 'Tourism and Hospitality'.
This victory is the result of hard work and determination. Last year, Sofia participated in these competitions but was unable to complete the online testing due to technical issues. This year, she confidently demonstrated a high level of preparation and became one of the winners.
The tradition of university representatives participating in this Olympiad is strengthening each year. In 2025, the institution was represented by Sofia Soyko, Roman Bolotyuk, and Anna Kovalovich. In 2026, part-time student Viktoriya Pysmennaya joined the team.
