During Open Government Week, the NUVHP discussed the development of aquatic biological resources and aquaculture.
Today, at the initiative of the Steering Committee of the international Initiative "Partnership for Open Government", the Open Government Week has started in the participating countries, running from May 18 to 22, 2026. As part of the Open Government Week, a thematic event was organized today for students of the National University of Water Management and Nature Resources by the head of the Rivne Fisheries Protection Patrol, Serhiy Bondar. Students from groups VBA-11, VBA-21, VBA-31, VBA-41, VBAm-51, ECO-11, and faculty of the department "Water Biological Resources" participated in the meeting.
The main topic of the event focused on the issues of openness and transparency of the Rivne Fisheries Protection Patrol's activities, the specifics of the fisheries sector, the development of aquaculture in the Rivne region, and current challenges and prospects of the fishing industry. Special attention was paid to climate change, the necessity of preserving aquatic ecosystems, and the importance of protecting the natural environment.
Participants of the event noted that the Open Government Week contributes to the development of democratic processes, increases the transparency of government bodies, and strengthens cooperation between the state, the public, the educational environment, and employers. The meeting also discussed the draft standard for higher education in the specialty N5 "Water Biological Resources and Aquaculture" at the bachelor's and master's levels, the professional standard "Fish Breeder", as well as relevant changes to the curricula for 2026. Representatives of employers and industry specialists had the opportunity to express their suggestions for improving educational components, updating disciplines, and enhancing the practical training of students in accordance with current labor market requirements and European Union standards.
Particular attention was paid to the need for the introduction of modern disciplines related to aquaculture, ecological safety, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), water quality monitoring, and the adaptation of fisheries to climate change.
The conduct of such events promotes the strengthening of cooperation between higher education institutions, employers, and state institutions, as well as the formation of a modern professional environment for preparing competitive specialists in the field of water biological resources and aquaculture.
