Discussed issues of water security in Ukraine under martial law.
On March 19, 2026, scientists from the Institute of Agri-Ecology and Land Management participated in
an online meeting of the Scientific Council of the All-Ukrainian Ecological League on the topic 'Ensuring Water Security in Ukraine under Martial Law'.
Representatives of state authorities also participated in the meeting, including:
Bondarenko Oleg Volodymyrovich, Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Natural Resources Management, Proshchuk Eduard Petrovych, People's Deputy of Ukraine, Chairman of the relevant subcommittee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine; Hoptchak Igor Vasylovych, Head of the State Agency for Water Resources of Ukraine; Trofanchuk Serhiy Ivanovych, Head of the Siversko-Donets Basin Water Management Authority, leading scientists and public figures.
The event was moderated at a high professional level by Tymochko Tetyana Valentynivna - Chair of the All-Ukrainian Ecological League.
Within the framework of the meeting, the following presentations by NUWGP scientists were made:
– 'Risks of disintegration of the water resources management system for environmental safety in Ukraine in the context of sustainable development and European standards' - Pryshchepa Alla Mykolaivna, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Head of the Rivne Regional Organization of the All-Ukrainian Ecological League;
– 'Is there a basis for water circularity in Ukraine?' - Bedunkova Olga Oleksandrivna, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Head of the Scientific Council of the Rivne Regional Organization of the All-Ukrainian Ecological League; The presented report was prepared based on the results of the international grant project WaterWise Hub (WWH), within which research and analytical work is conducted on the development of circular economy approaches, sustainable water resources management, and the formation of scientifically grounded approaches to increasing water security. The report highlighted current challenges to the implementation of water circularity principles in Ukraine, analyzed the prerequisites for the development of circular approaches in the water sector, and outlined the role of scientific research, international cooperation, and innovative solutions in ensuring sustainable use of water resources and adapting water use systems to current environmental challenges.
– 'Monitoring of water quality and risk assessment in centralized water supply systems' - Martynov Serhiy Yuriyovych, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor;
– 'Methodological approaches to restoring the hydroecological state of reservoirs as a component of ensuring water security of urbanized systems' - Statnyk Ihor Ivanovych, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor;
– 'Justification of measures for the restoration of the swamps Somyne and Syra Pohonya of the Rivne Nature Reserve' - Korbutyak Vasyl Mykhailovych, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor.
Participants noted the need to maintain an integrated water resources management system, implement a basin principle, develop monitoring and digitization, as well as restore water ecosystems and ensure quality drinking water for the population. The event became an important platform for discussing contemporary challenges in the sphere of water security in Ukraine and the role of scientific research in overcoming them.
