Discussed the functioning of the State Water Cadastre of Ukraine in the context of European integration processes.

Scientists from the Institute of Agroecology and Land Management participated  in the scientific-practical conference 'Water Cadastre as a Tool for Preserving Water Resources of Polissia.'

The event was dedicated to improving the filling and functioning of the State Water Cadastre of Ukraine under the conditions of European integration processes, as well as fulfilling Ukraine's international obligations regarding the protection of wetlands of international importance. Special attention was given to biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.

The conference was attended by representatives of the State Agency for Water Resources of Ukraine, executive authorities, public organizations, basin managements, regional offices of water resources, the State Ecology Inspection of the Polissia region, as well as scientific and teaching staff of NUWGP.

The event was opened by Ukrainian MP, Chair of the Subcommittee on Forest Resources, Animal and Plant Life Objects, and the Nature Reserve Fund of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Environmental Policy and Natural Resource Use, Yuliia Ovchynnikova, who emphasized the priority of preserving water resources and the role of a quality water cadastre as the foundation for effective natural systems management.

Chairman of the State Agency for Water Resources of Ukraine Ihor Hopchak emphasized the importance of developing the State Water Cadastre as a decision-making tool and noted progress in the digitization of water bodies, particularly the digitization of about 80,000 entities.

University Rector Viktor Moshynskyi highlighted the importance of accessibility of the cadastre at all levels of management for effective management of the natural state of territorial systems, including water, and focused on NUWGP as an instrument for ensuring personnel, scientific, administrative, and financial policies in this area.

Representatives of public organizations and government authorities also presented reports outlining current challenges and practical aspects of using data from the State Water Cadastre in the field of water resource management.

Associate Professor of Land Management, Cadastre, Land Monitoring and Geoinformatics Vasyl Korbutiak reported on the restoration of wetland ecosystems in Polissia, using the Somyne and Syra Pohonia areas of the Rivne Nature Reserve as examples, and also presented the research team's findings on studying, monitoring, and restoring natural ecosystems, including the results of long-term studies on the state of peat-bog lands and developed approaches for their ecological rehabilitation.

In conclusion, conference participants exchanged views on the raised issues, summarized the presented reports, and identified the most complex and pressing problems in the formation and maintenance of the State Water Cadastre. Special attention was given to improving methodological approaches, increasing the quality and completeness of data, and strengthening inter-agency cooperation in water resource management.

The National University of Water Management and Nature Management plays an important role in these processes, preparing highly qualified specialists for the field of water management, land management, and environmental management. The university forms modern professional competencies for students, combining solid theoretical training with practical components, scientific research, and collaboration with relevant state and international institutions. The results obtained and developments will be used for further scientific processing and practical implementation in the relevant fields of natural resource use.
