Researchers from the Institute of Agroecology and Land Management — Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Yulia Romanivna Grokhovska, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Aquatic Bioresources Serhiy Viktorovych Konontsev, Assistant of the Department of Agrochemistry, Soil Science and Agriculture named after S.T. Voznyuk, and also a third-level higher education student Maria Kraina — participated in the delegation of NULES led by the Head of the Research Department, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Hydraulics Yevhen Hennadiyovych Gerasymov.
From May 27 to 30, 2026, the delegation made a working visit to the Agricultural University of Krakow (Krakow, Poland). The main purpose of the trip was a meeting with colleagues from Newcastle University, which took place at the Agricultural University of Krakow, and the discussion of further deepening strategic cooperation, particularly in the preparation of joint project applications.
During the working meetings, the researchers from NULES presented a number of reports devoted to current problems of modern science and practice, including:
ü the current state of hydropower in Ukraine under wartime conditions, the assessment of damages to energy infrastructure, and issues of strategic sustainability of hydropower systems; the role of the Dnipro and Dniester cascades of hydropower plants in ensuring energy security, water supply, irrigation, navigation, and functioning of critical infrastructure, as well as the consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydropower Plant for the environment and nuclear safety;
ü the study of biodiversity in the aquatic ecosystems of the Pripyat River basin under anthropogenic load and multifactorial stress; modern approaches to assessing the state, restoration, and bioremediation of aquatic ecosystems, as well as the educational and scientific activities of the Department of Aquatic Bioresources within the context of international Erasmus+ projects;
ü the analysis of projects for the use of water resources in urban environments and the presentation of ideas for further research collaboration on rethinking the role of green spaces in cities, particularly the integration of green plantings as systems for stormwater accumulation and regulation to enhance the resilience of urbanized areas;
ü issues of restoring and remediating soils damaged due to military actions, assessing pollution levels and monitoring potentially hazardous areas, as well as modern methods of physical, chemical, and biological remediation using phytoremediators, immobilizing substances, and chelating agents.
The results of the visit were an important step in expanding international scientific collaboration and forming new joint research initiatives between partner institutions.
