On May 19, 2026, a practical class dedicated to the feasibility of using chlorella in pond aquaculture took place at the National University of Water Management and Nature Management. Students from groups VBA-11, VBA-21, VBA-31, VBA-41, VBA-51, Eko-21, as well as graduate students specializing in 'Ecology', participated in the event. Representatives of the Rivne Fish Protection Patrol, Deputy Director of the Institute of Aquatic Resources, Professor Olha Biedunkova, and the Department of Aquatic Biological Resources also contributed to the session, marking another step towards strengthening cooperation between the educational environment and the practical field of aquaculture.
The speaker of the event was Ivan Pavlovych Shchevych — a lessee and subject of aquaculture conducting fish farming activities in Rivne region. During the meeting, Ivan Pavlovych shared his practical experience using chlorella in fish farming, emphasizing its effectiveness in improving the ecological state of water bodies and increasing fish farming productivity. Participants learned that chlorella is a single-celled green microalga widely used in modern aquaculture to enhance water quality, strengthen fish immunity, and reduce cultivation costs by forming a natural feed base. Also within the meeting, a discussion with the employer took place regarding the draft higher education standards for bachelor's and master's levels for 2026, and the introduction of new courses and minors/majors in the curricula for 2026, which will enhance the training of specialists in the field of aquatic biological resources and aquaculture according to modern industry needs.
The organization of such events is an important component of practice-oriented education and contributes to deepening cooperation between the university, employers, and representatives of the fish protection sector.
