1. Collaboration with Czestochowa University of Technology (Poland) began in 2016 after participating inthe International Scientific and Technical Conference "EcoComfort" dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic" and the 55th anniversary of the specialty "Heat Supply and Ventilation", where discussions on educational programs of NUWGP took place and Czestochowa University of Technology.Research and teaching staff of the Department of Heat Supply and Ventilation participated in the annual international conference «Materials, Structures, Technologies, and Management in Civil and Environmental Engineering» (2020) https://bud.pcz.pl/bozpe-nr-2262020 and consulted on the formation of their educational programs, for example, direct collaboration was with leading teachers, Doctors Adam Ujmo and Anna Lys.
2. ProjectUKRENERGY "Innovative Master Courses Supporting the Improvement of the Energy and Carbon Footprint of the Ukrainian Building Stock"(eng. "Innovative Master Courses Supporting the Improvement of the Energy and Carbon Footprint of the Ukrainian Building Stock") is implemented with the support of the European Commission - "European Executive Agency for Education and Culture" within the framework of the programERASMUS+under KA2 aimed at supporting "Capacity Building in Higher Education" in EU partner countries.
The main goal of the Project is to promote EU and Ukraine's best practices regarding educational methodology and knowledge related to energy efficiency and sustainable development, particularly the implementation of innovative master's courses on energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint in the building stock of Ukraine. The Coordinator of the Project from Ukraine is Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA). The main goal of the Project is to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Ukraine through the creation of innovative master's courses on energy efficiency in buildings (EEB) in accordance with the principles of the Bologna process.
The specific objectives of the Project are:
• the development of new master's courses on energy efficiency and energy conservation in buildings according to labor market demand, the implementation of master's courses at universities in Ukraine;
• the improvement of qualifications of university teachers in Ukraine to direct the educational program to solving issues of energy efficiency and thermal modernization of buildings;
• the dissemination and popularization of knowledge on the European Green Deal and EU requirements.
Participation in this Project will contribute to:
• increasing the level of energy efficiency in Ukrainian buildings;
• experience exchange between Ukrainian and European higher education institutions.
3. With the support of GIZ (Germany) within the framework of the international technical assistance project "Support for the National Energy Efficiency Fund and Environmental Reforms Program (S21) in Ukraine" in 2019, three teachers from the Department of Heat Supply and Ventilation attended two trainings that covered all modern aspects of energy auditor training programs developed by specialists from Latvia. One of the teachers continued their studies in Poland under the training program in EU countries. The training materials provided in paper and electronic form became the basis for organizing and starting the work of the Certification Commission of NUWGP for the training and certification of energy auditors, which actively operated for 3 years (2019-2021).
Recently, the research and teaching staff of the Department of Heat Supply and Ventilation together with representatives of European scientific and educational institutions participated in several diverse grant and loan projects, some of which are listed below.
4. Towards a circular economy in organic farming (TENOR)
During 2017-2018, under the guidance of specialists from NMBU (Norway) and together with colleagues from Germany and Belarus, lecturers and graduate students participated in the creation of the "Living Laboratory" TENOR to study the possibilities of recycling water, nutrients, and heat in the organic farming system based on sources from sewage systems and smart irrigation solutions. The project's goal is to demonstrate how decentralized wastewater treatment can maximize resource circulation and use while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions associated with wastewater transport.
Several reports were prepared and presented at seminars and excursions were taken to agro-industrial complex facilities, water supply, and sewage.
5. Higher education in Ukraine – Energy efficiency and sustainable development
During 2018-2025, employeesof the department actively participated and continue to participate in the implementation of this project within the framework of the NUWGP subproject.
The project's goal is to bring higher education in Ukraine to world energy efficiency standards for sustainable development. The project implementers' efforts are aimed at significantly reducing energy consumption, preserving and developing educational and research infrastructure, implementing alternative energy sources, and innovative technologies in servicing university campuses.
The department's teachers have already completed such works:
· Preparing initial data and documentation;
· Conducting an express energy audit of the NUWGP campus buildings;
· Work in the tender committee of the Ministry of Education and Science;
· Verification of project and cost documentation for the thermal modernization of educational buildings No. 2 and 6, etc.
6. Reconstruction of the hot water supply system using geothermal heat pumps for two dormitories of NUWGP
Demonstration project of the Finnish-Ukrainian Trust Fund "Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy and Alternative Energy Sources in Ukraine."
The department's employees have participated and continue to participate in such activities:
· Pre-project calculations and studies
· Preparation of initial data for design
· Technical supervision from NUWGP over the design, construction, and commissioning works of the heat pump installation;
· Monitoring the operation of the heat pump installation.
7. Grant project "Creating a NetZero concept for the city of Rivne" (Program "HORIZON")
Development of the NZE scenario aimed at achieving climate neutrality by 2050 through maximizing the potential of renewable energy sources (solar power plants, wind power plants, batteries, local production of biomethane, including at sewage treatment plants) and the implementation of generating technologies with capture and storage of carbon based on biomethane, enabling the compensation of residual GHG emissions. Significant reductions in final energy consumption are expected due to thermal modernization of buildings, electrification of transport, development of centralized heating, recovery, and use of thermal energy from wastewater through heat pumps, etc.
The department's teachers participated in the development of the section on modernizing the centralized heating of Rivne.
