The Department of Building Products Technology and Materials Science traces its origins to September 1973, when it was structurally part of the Department of "Building Production Technology and Building Materials" of the Ukrainian Institute of Water Management Engineers. In 1985, it was separated into an independent department "Building Materials."
Since 1985, the founder, organizer, and head of the department throughout its entire existence has been Dvorkin Leonid Iosifovich – honored figure of science and technology of Ukraine, academician of the Academy of Construction, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, honorary professor of the university.
An important milestone in the department's history came in 1991 when the university began training specialists in the specialty "Technology of Construction Structures, Products and Materials" (TBCPM), according to which the department gained the status of a graduating department. The first graduation of engineers-construction technologists in this specialty took place in 1996. In the same year, the department was assigned its current name – "Technology of Building Products and Materials Science."
In 2001, the specialty was accredited at the highest (IV level), allowing for the training of specialists at three qualification levels – bachelor, specialist, and master's.
Over the past twenty-five years, more than 600 specialists, bachelors, and masters have been trained under the educational program "Technology of Construction Structures, Products and Materials," who are successfully working in enterprises of the construction industry in the region and Ukraine.
During the existence of the department, professors Dvorkin L.Y. and Dvorkin O.L., associate professors Shamban I.B., Shestakov V.L., Marchuk V.M., Pikovskiy I.O., Kukovskiy A.O., Kizyma V.P., Opanashchuk T.V., Benchuk O.P., Mironenko A.V., Skrypnyk I.G., Harnitskiy Y.V., Bezusyak O.V., Bordyuzhenko O.M., Zhitkovskiy V.V., Lushnikova N.V., Ishchuk O.O., Babich Y.E., Marchuk V.V., senior lecturers Prokopyev L.K., Timofeeva L.V., Nikhaeva L.I., Raguzina I.M., assistants Polishchuk-Herasymchuk T.O., Kundos M.H., Yakovchuk V.V., Zinchenko S.V. have worked and are working at the department.
Today, the Department of Building Products Technology and Materials Science is a graduating department for the master's educational-professional program"Technology of Construction Structures, Products and Materials"and also prepares bachelors under the educational-professional programG19 «Construction and Civil Engineeringengineering"within the educational-professional block""Engineering of Building Materials".The department's lecturers also teach professional disciplines of educational programs (33 courses), supervise course projects (12 projects and works), and diploma design, as well as conduct training, two industrial, and pre-diploma internships. The department also teaches the professionally oriented discipline "Building Materials Science" for all specialties of the construction and water management profile of the university.
Masters who wish to connect their activity with scientific and teaching work can continue their studies at the department with the aim of obtaining a PhD degree, and subsequently – a higher scientific degree of Doctor of Sciences.
