The scientific work of the department is traditionally dedicated to the theme of resource conservation in building materials technology and aims to develop technologies for effective building materials using local and man-made raw materials.
Among the main areas of scientific activity of the department of Building Materials and Structures, the following can be noted:
1. Development of theoretical foundations, calculation methods, and algorithms for multi-parameter design of concrete mixes of various types using mathematical modeling.
2. Development of the fundamentals of active micro-fillers and multifunctional modifiers in cement concretes, as well as technologies for concretes with improved properties based on cast and super-rigid mixtures.
3. Application of industrial waste, the use of man-made and local raw materials in the production of building materials.
4. Effective modern building materials and products.
5. Creation of a training and methodical complex to ensure the teaching of building materials science and technology of building materials in higher educational institutions.
The results of the research are protected by author certificates and patents of Ukraine, and published in a number of monographs and articles. A doctoral dissertation has been completed on the indicated theme, along with several candidate dissertations.
An important area of work is the operation of a testing laboratory for building materials and products at the department, which allows assistance to production in monitoring the quality of their products.
Students graduating from the department of Building Materials and Structures are traditionally involved in scientific work. The results of their research are published in the university's collections of scientific papers, and they annually become winners of student scientific work competitions.
The department of Building Materials and Structures maintains close cooperation with related departments of other construction universities in Ukraine through mutual participation in scientific conferences and seminars, as well as an exchange of educational and methodical literature. In recent years, the department has organized a number of scientific and technical conferences and seminars on the problems of resource conservation in building materials technology and the relationship between the composition and properties of concrete.
