History of the Department of "Water Biological Resources"
The Department of "Water Biological Resources" was established according to the decision of the Academic Council of the National University of Water Management and Nature Resources Use on May 31, 2002 (protocol № 2) and the permission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated September 10, 2002, signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Stepko M.F., as part of the Faculty of Ecology and Land Management.
During its operation, the Department of Aquatic Bioresources has been led by:
2002-2003, Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, Associate Professor H.P. Volovik;
2003-2009 PhD in Biological Sciences, Associate Professor V.V. Sondak;
2009-2013 Professor, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences M.S. Mandyhra;
2013-2020 PhD in Biological Sciences, Professor V.V.Sondak;
Since July 2020, candidate of veterinary sciences, associate professor T.V.Poltavchenko
Specialties and Training Directions
Currently, the department prepares specialists in full-time and part-time distance learning for the specialty "Water Bioresources and Aquaculture," at the first level.higher education level(bachelor's) and secondhigher education level(master's) – N5 "Water Bioresources and Aquaculture."
The specialty 207 "Water Bioresources and Aquaculture" was first accredited at the National University of Water Management and Nature Resources Use (NUWMP) at the educational-qualification level of "Bachelor" in 2003, and in 2005 at the level of "Specialist." Since 2014, the specialty "Water Bioresources and Aquaculture" has been licensed and accredited at the educational-qualification level of "Master." In 2025, the specialty was re-accredited until 2030 at the educational-qualification level of "Bachelor," for the specialtyfor the specialty 207 "Water Bioresources and Aquaculture" within the field of knowledge 20 "Agricultural Sciences and Food."In 2021, the specialty was re-accredited until 2027 at the educational-qualification level - "Master" for the specialty207 "Water Bioresources and Aquaculture" according to the educational-professional program "Protection, reproduction, and rational use of hydrobiological resources"within the field of knowledge 20 "Agricultural Sciences and Food."
The total number of department lecturers is 7 – lecturers, including:
4 – doctors of sciences, professors;
2 - PhD candidates, associate professors;
1 - assistant.
The first graduation of specialists with the qualification 'Professional in Ichthyology and Fish Farming' took place in 2005.
The teaching and auxiliary staff ensures a quality educational process for studying 48 subjectsdisciplinesaccording to the educational plans in rooms allocated to the departmentclassrooms.
During the education process, learners, according toeducational and professional programsandcurriculago through initial and productionpracticesaccording tothe concluded contractson cooperation with enterprises.
The department is a graduation department for the specialty N5 "Water Bioresources and Aquaculture", field of knowledge N "Agriculture, Forestry, Fishery and Veterinary Medicine". During the educational process implemented in the department, activities are held to promote academic integrity amongthe facultyandhigher education seekers.To obtain objective results for assessing the educational process for each academic discipline, higher education seekers voluntarily conduct ansurveyusing computer technologies (the survey results) as part of internal monitoring by the university's education quality department. The results of the survey are discussed at department meetings.
