Research activities: departmental topics, collaboration with other educational institutions and research organizations

Research areas of the department:

• Preservation and reproduction of biological resources of transformed water bodies in the Polissya and Forest-Steppe regions of Ukraine. State registration code 02071116.
• Technological Principles of Feeding and Raising Freshwater Fish in Pond Farms. State Registration Code 0207116.
• Ways of rational management of pond aquaculture in the Polissya zone, focusing on the cultivation of quality fish seed material and marketable fish.
• Use of lake and river ecosystems for fish farming;
• Development and implementation of general prevention systems for viral diseases in carp species fish.
• Assessment of the ecological condition of water ecosystems, economic and forage value of phytobiota.

The faculty members of the department maintain creative connections with related departments and faculties of higher education institutions in Ukraine: the Faculty of Animal Science and Aquatic Resources of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv), the Faculty of Aquatic Resources, Aquaculture and Ecology of Kherson State Agrarian University, specialized departments of Vinnytsia National Agrarian University and Odesa State Environmental University, etc.

Under the guidance of the department’s researchers, students conduct scientific research, the results of which are presented at student scientific conferences at NUWGP and other universities in Ukraine. The best student research papers are recommended by the department for publication in specialized journals. Students in the "Water Bioresources" program actively participate in nationwide Olympiads, receiving certificates and diplomas for their achievements.

The faculty at the department pays great attention to the scientific work of students. The department has establishedstudent scientific clubs,the theme, plan, and results of which are approved annually at the university level. The results of students' scientific work are actively published and presented at All-Ukrainian competitions of student research works, innovation project competitions, and regional scientific contests.

Under the guidance of the scientists of the department: Associate Professor, Candidate of Veterinary Sciences Polvatchenko Tetyana Viktorivna, Professor, Doctor of Biological Sciences Gryb Yosyp Vasyliovych, and Associate Professor, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Petruk Alina Mykolaivna - the department is working on the departmental theme:«Formation of the status of aquaculture objects and the aquatic environment under the current conditions of anthropogenic load». Areas of the department's activities

Principles of ensuring high-quality training of modern highly qualified specialists at educational and qualification levels - bachelor, master in the field of training “Water Bioresources and Aquaculture”: are laid down in the model:

• Reliance on own scientific research;
• Selection of experienced and young teachers;
• Development of own methodological support, typical programs of educational disciplines, publication of monographs, educational manuals, textbooks;
• Development of students' research activities;
• Interaction with partners from universities in Ukraine and foreign countries;
• Close cooperation with alumni and employers;
• Collaboration with student youth.

External relations of the department

•  NAAS of Ukraine – Institute of Fisheries: department lecturers are members of the editorial board of the professional journal Fishery Science of Ukraine, members of the specialized scientific council for the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations in the specialty 'ichthyology and aquaculture'.
• Dnipropetrovsk National University, journal 'Ecology and Noospherology'. Announcements from universities in the cities of Lutsk, Kherson, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Kyiv.
• The department collaborates with educational and scientific institutions that prepare specialists in Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Lviv, Vinnytsia, Sumy, Kherson, Dnipro.

Collaboration with local self-government bodies:

    The faculty and students of the department of aquatic bioresources (specialization N5 Aquatic resources and aquaculture) actively participate in the study of the state of the feed base and natural water bodies of the Polissya region of Ukraine, including incontractual topics funded by the budgets of individual territorial communities of the region:

• participation in the work of ecological committees;
• development of scientific projects for the rehabilitation of disturbed aquatic ecosystems;
• participation in the competition of scientific works named after Professor Kostin O.I. for the rehabilitation of the ecosystem of the Ustya River in the urbanized areas.
