1965-1974 years
In 1962, a nationwide tourist gathering organized by 'Spartak' took place in Crimea. This event contributed to the emergence of tourism in Rivne region.
The first information about the emergence of tourism at the Institute of Water Management dates back to 1963-1964. At that time, weekend hikes and multi-day trips (Carpathians) were organized and were linked to the Department of Agricultural Melioration. The most active initiator of all these hikes was the lab technician Zoya (her last name is unknown). In 1964, under her guidance, a 3rd category difficulty hike was held in Crimea.
In 1965, hikes began to be organized almost every weekend. The most frequent destinations were Reshutsik, Sosnovoe, Yanova Valley, Lopaten and especially Novostav. In Novostav, a ski base 'Spartak' was organized at the pioneer camp, where many tourists gathered, not only from the water institute, but also from RZVA, RZTP. On holidays - May and October holidays - hikes to the Carpathians were conducted (Yasynia - Dragobrat - Rakhiv, Mizhhirya - Synevyr - Volovets). The initiator of all these hikes was Dudina Alla. (After graduating from the institute, she continued to lead hikes to the Kuril Islands, Kamchatka, etc. after being assigned to Vladivostok.)
As a result of all this, the objective outcome was the organization of a club, which was named 'Azimuth'. The name was chosen because the main activity of participants during weekend outings in the forest was orientation. The club included: Dyachenko Valeriy - club chairman, Mischev Valeriy - head of the ski tourism section, Artemonov Volodya - head of the economic commission, and Zavadovsky Vitaliy - deputy chairman of the club. Under Zavadovsky's guidance, a team was prepared to participate in the 'Cave Brothers' gathering (PBT-3), which took place in Ternopil.
In the summer of 1968, club members carried out a category hike in the Outer Elbrus region. With the establishment of the 'Azimuth' club at the institute, tourism propaganda began to be conducted. The ranks of tourists began to increase, and Tishchenko Sasha, Potapkin Vitaliy, Gorbachova Valya, and Deltsova Larisa joined the club.
In 1970, under the leadership of Burenko Valeriy Vasilyovich, members of the 'Azimuth' club made a hike to Khamar-Daban (Baikal region), and later to Altai.
1975-1984 years
From 1975 to 1981, the tourist club traditionally held tourist gatherings 'Berezі', and club activists took part in city competitions 'Golden Autumn'. Mainly, pedestrian hikes of 1-2 category difficulty were held in the Carpathians, Crimea, and Kremenets Ridge.
Occasionally, there were water hikes in Polissya and bicycle trips in Crimea. The period for these hikes fell in May and November. Simultaneously, 8-10 groups went on routes, totaling 70-90 people.
During winter vacations, ski category hikes were held in the Carpathians, Khibiny, and Kremenets Ridge, in which 40-50 students participated. In particular, a winter ski hike of the 2nd category of difficulty was conducted under the guidance of the club chairman Reshetnik Serhiy. In the summer vacations, 10-15 students traveled to climbing camps in the Caucasus: Dombay, Baksan, where they received good training. Thanks to such a program, in 1978, 5 Azimuth members participated in a mass ascent of Kazbek. Already in 1978 and 1980, a mass ascent to Hoverla was organized (100-120 people). In 1978, at the first Republican gathering in Yaremche, the team participated in competitions on pedestrian tourism techniques representing Rivne region, and in 1979 in Kamianets-Podilskyi. There were regular propaganda events: evenings at student café, weekend hikes (PVD).
In 1981-83, under the leadership of Zhukov Viktor, there were two hikes to the Caucasus - in the Outer Elbrus region. Weekend hikes to 'Hoverlyana' were conducted, and competitions 'Berezі' were organized. Tourists from the 'Azimuth' club had good relations with the tourist club 'Burevisnyk'. The organization of hikes and other events was always supported by the trade union, Komsomol. There were frequent hikes in the places of partisan glory. The military department was involved.
In 1983-85, under the leadership of Koval Vladimir, notable expeditions took place to the Caucasus and Crimea. The Azimut members went on journeys together with tourists from the pedagogical institute (Caucasus, Tian Shan). A hiking trip of 2nd category was conducted in the Carpathians during the off-season.
1985-1994
In 1985-86, under the leadership of Bishop Igor and collaborating with the physical education department, the tourist club conducted GTO hikes from Tsumani to Novostav in spring and autumn (100-200 people). During the May and October holidays, three to four groups set off on category hikes in the Carpathians. They organized events like "Birch", "Memory of Comrades", the orienteering event "Golden Autumn", summer hikes to the Caucasus, Sayan Mountains, and rafting on the Horyn and Sluch rivers.
Finally, the club received a separate room in dormitory 7, which served for a long time and became a home for more than one generation of backpackers. They maintained the tradition of celebrating the New Year in the Carpathians or in the forest.
When Volodya Demchuk was elected chairman in 1986-89, the club prioritized mountaineering and mountain activities. They began to go to alpine camps, and the club acquired its own carabiners and ropes. Each faculty represented its own team at the gatherings. Girls started to lead the hikes. The number of club members increased, and the technical competence of hikes improved as new routes were created and explored.
In 1994-95, the club was led by Orel Oleksiy; participants mostly traveled to the Carpathians, although there was one trip to Crimea.
1995-2004
In 1996-98, the club was headed by Rak Arkadiy. At that time, there were few participants in the club. Activists helped organize competitions.
In 1998-2000, the club was led by Hlymbitskyi Volodymyr. Many active members of the tourist club at that time were dismissed from "Vodniy" due to unsuccessful studies. Participants spent a lot of time near Lake Basiv Kut. Among notable personalities were musician Sybiriov and guitarist Rak Arkadiy. During this period, the tourist club lost its room in dormitory No. 7.
From 2000-2005, the club was led by Kankrov Illia and Stelmakh Mykola (2003-2005) and had very few participants. There were also few hikes, so in 2003, the competitions "Birch" and "April Games" (from RDGU) decided to merge into one event – "April Birches", one of the organizers of which was AnatoliyYeremeychuk ("Karas" RDGU). This continued for five years.
At the end of 2003, the tradition of celebrating New Year in the Carpathians began to be revived.
2005-2015
Under the leadership of Kobryn (2005-2008), efforts to conduct category hikes resumed, the name 'Berez' was restored, and the first bike hike in the Carpathians was organized.
The year 2008 began with the resumption of systematic hikes in the Carpathians, and the members of the tourism club participated in the Ukrainian Walking Tourism Championship. In 2010, two groups made hikes in the Caucasus. The 'Berez' competitions during this period received the status of sports competitions due to the involvement of the regional federation of sports tourism. In 2008-2010, the chairman of the club was Kokojev Alan.
From 2010 to 2012, the club was led by Ilchuk Andriy. In 2011, an ascent to Mount Kazbek was made (Kushniruk Andriy), and a bike hike of category 1 was conducted in mountainous Crimea.
The head of the club from 2012 to 2014 was Papizhuk Maksym. In 2012, club members made a mountain hike of category 2 and a foot hike of category 3 (Arkhiz) and a bike hike in the Pre-Elbrus region of category 3. In 2013, hikes took place in Georgia: a foot hike of category 4 and a bike hike of category 5.
The year 2014 was marked by the 'Berez' competitions under the leadership of Kozachuk Roman (CMS in sports tourism), who was later elected chairman of the tourism club. A hike of category 1 was conducted in the Carpathians and in the Western Caucasus. Club members along with tourists from Odesa made a bike hike of category 4 in the mountain ranges of Bulgaria. The final event of this year was a weekend hike 'Hoverlyana': in honor of the 50th anniversary of Azimut. 50 club members made the ascent to Hoverla and erected a commemorative sign there. Among them were 10 club leaders.
In 2015, the team of the tourism club 'Azimut' led by Shevchuk Natalia (MSU in sports tourism)won second place in the Ukrainian Championship among student youth in the category 'Foot Hikes 2 k.s.'(hike of the second category of difficulty).
2016-2022years
In 2016, the club elected Hekkel Yelyzaveta, a student of the Department of Tourism, as its head, who, while still a student, became a silver medalist at the Ukrainian Championship as part of the 'Azimut' team.
By 2018, the 'Berez' competitions were held under the leadership of the new chairman - Davidyuk Taras, CMS in sports tourism (NNIAZ).
The year 2019 was marked by the victory in the hiking competition 'Following the UPA Trails' by Kondrachuk Vasyl (NNIAZ) and Melnyk Roman (NNIAKOT) in the distance of 80 km (III k.s).
Club members have continued to get acquainted with the Caucasus, specifically Svanetiya, during these years. Mountain hikes of categories 2-5 were carried out as part of combined teams from Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv FSTU. A hiking trip of category I was completed in the Carpathians (Marmarosy and Chornogora Ridge), along with annual non-categorized hikes, weekend hikes, training trips to the rocks, and competitions in sports orienteering.
The Department of Tourism and Hotel-Restaurant Management actively participated in organizing trips for students and teachers to training seminars in the Carpathians, led by Romanyv A.S. and Kushnirok Yu.S.
In 2020, victory was achieved in the extreme tourism competition 'Ostroh trail' by Kondratchuk Vasyl (NNIAZ) and Melnyk Roman (NNIACOT) in the distance of 60+ km and Natalia Shevchuk in the cycling distance.
Adjusting to the realities of today (Covid-19), one-day hiking, cycling trips, and active walks were organized throughout 2021 within Rivne region and the outskirts of the city.
In 2022, the TC 'Azimuth' joined in teaching orienteering not only to students but also to participants of the DFTG of the Rivne territorial community. In 2023, the club participates in a program for training the civilian population together with the HCG of Rivne city from the Sergey Prytula Charity Fund.
