The Department of Military Training of the Ukrainian Institute of Water Engineers (today - National University of Water Infrastructure and Nature Management) was establishedon December 25, 1969based on Resolution No. 493-195 of the Council of Ministers of the USSR dated June 25, 1969, Resolution No. 94 of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR dated September 13, 1969, Directive of the Commander of the Western Military District No. 27/0719 dated December 10, 1969. The department was headed by World War II veteran Colonel Vasil Ivanovych Hoholevskyi.

Today, the Department of Military Training is a structural subdivision of the National University of Water Infrastructure and Nature Management and is subordinate to the Command of Training of the Ground Forces Command, the Central Directorate of Military Education and Science of the General Staff, and the Department of Military Education of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Citizens of Ukraine agedup to 50 years,who have or are obtaining a degree of higher education no lower than a bachelor's degree, are fit for military service in terms of health, and also meet certain moral and business qualities, can study at the Department of Military Training of the National University of Water Infrastructure and Nature Management.

Training is conducted at the expense of individuals for military accounting specialties such as "Combat Employment of Mechanized Units, Military Units, and Subdivisions", "Combat Employment of Anti-Tank Guided Missile Units", "Combat Employment of Engineering and Technical Units, Parts, and Connections", "Operation and Repair of Engineering Armament". Both men and women have the right to study in all chosen specialties. Military traininglasts for 2 years.Classes at the department are conducted using the military day method, that is, one day a week.

The department has its own educational and material base, a drill square, a park of combat vehicles, a multimedia shooting range, separate classrooms, samples of weapons and military equipment. Classes are conducted by qualified scientific and pedagogical staff with experience in military (combat) and pedagogical activities.

Citizens of Ukraine who have completed the full course of military training under the reserve officer training program, passed the established exams, and are qualified for the officer corps are awarded the corresponding primary military rank of reserve officer. This expands opportunities for career choice. Graduates can serve under contract in both the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other law enforcement agencies of our state (Security Service of Ukraine, State Border Guard Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, etc.).

- order of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine dated January 6, 2025 No. 6 "On Approval of Typical Standards for Developing Staffing Tables of Higher Military Educational Institutions, Military Training Units of Higher Education Institutions, and Institutions of Vocational Pre-Higher Military Education that fall under the management of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine."
