The Department of Physical Education was established in 1960 and has since actively contributed to the physical health of students. The main direction of the department's activities is to create conditions for improving the level of physical training and enhancing the sports skills of students. Thanks to the work of various sports and health sections provided by the department's teachers, students have the opportunity to join the university's sports traditions and lead a healthy lifestyle according to their interests and vocations.

The department provides a high-quality educational process for the educational component "Physical Education" for students of all specialties in the 1st to 4th years of full-time study. The main goal is to foster a culture of health, strengthen the physical condition, and enhance the performance of youth, as well as promote physical culture and sports among students.

At the university, sports sections for 17 types of sports operate. Each year, the department organizes the NUWGP Universiade in 8 types of sports among the combined teams of the institutes; the Dormitory Spartakiad in 7 types of sports.

The educational, training, educational, scientific, and methodological processes are provided by highly qualified specialists: associate professors, candidates of sciences in physical education and sports, Honored Workers of Physical Culture and Sports, Honored Coaches of Ukraine, and masters of sports.

The department is headed by Bohdan Dmytrovych Zubrytskyi — an associate professor, Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports, and an excellent educationist of Ukraine.
