LIFE
LIFE - A program for environmental protection and combating climate change.
Created in 1992, the LIFE program is the EU's funding instrument for environmental protection and combating climate change, under which over 5,000 projects have been co-financed to contribute to the greening of Europe. Since 2021, the LIFE program includes a new subprogram 'Transition to Clean Energy.'
The total budget for the implementation of the LIFE program for 2021-2027 will be €5.432 billion.
The main objectives of the LIFE program are:
- to promote the transition to a more sustainable, circular, energy-efficient economy based on renewable energy sources, which is climate-neutral and resilient to climate change;
- to protect, restore, and improve the state of the environment;
- to stop and reverse the process of biodiversity loss;
- to halt the degradation of ecosystems through the management and expansion of the 'Natura 2000' network, thereby facilitating sustainable development;
- to encourage and support 'green' ideas, including from large and small companies, non-governmental organizations, public authorities, community groups, and scientific circles.
