DECEMBER 3 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
Every year on December 3rd, together with the global community, Ukraine commemorates the Day of Persons with Disabilities. Among us live individuals whose physical abilities are limited. These are people who, for various reasons, cannot fully care for themselves or provide for their own needs. Disability can be congenital or acquired as a result of injuries, infections, etc.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is not a holiday, but aims to draw attention to the issues faced by these individuals, to protect their rights, dignity, and well-being, and to highlight the advantages that society gains from the participation of persons with disabilities in political, social, economic, and cultural life. This day serves as a reminder to humanity of its duty to show care and compassion towards the most vulnerable part of society – people with disabilities.
Ukraine, like all civilized countries with a high culture of human relations, treats these individuals as people with special needs who require additional attention from society. Such individuals do not call themselves disabled; they do not ask for pity; what matters to them is the basic opportunity to live. To be part of society,to self-actualizeto have access to quality education and job opportunities.
