Department's Work Priorities:
- training specialists at the first (bachelor's) level in the specialty 061 Journalism;
- teaching courses 'Ukrainian Language (for Professional Purposes)', 'Ukrainian Statehood and Culture' and elective disciplines for students of all educational programs of higher education institutions;
- preparing foreign students for higher education in Ukrainian as a foreign language.

Specialty 061 JournalismThe National University of Water Management and Nature Resources was licensed in 2017, prompted by the needs of the regional labor market as well as the opportunities for training specialists in higher education institutions considering its material, technical, human, and informational potential.
The educational and professional program "Journalism" was developed at the Department of Public Administration, Documentation, and Information Activities by a working group led byDoctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Halych V.M.The first group of students began their studies in the specialty 061 Journalism in the 2018-2019 academic year.
Since September 2020, the specialty 061 Journalism has been transferred to the Department of Ukrainian Studies, based on which a graduating department of journalism and Ukrainian studies has been created.
In 2021, the educational program "Journalism" was updated taking into account the changes occurring in the media sector and the labor market, suggestions and remarks from stakeholders of the educational program, as well as representatives of the academic community. After extensive discussion, the modernized educational program was approved by the university's academic council and came into effect on 01.09.2021.

The Department of Journalism and Ukrainian Studies considers the educational program "Journalism" of 2021 as the next stage in the establishment of the direction of media education in the multidimensional educational environment of the largest higher education institution in the region, a university with a 106-year history, as a dynamic sphere for forming a new generation of professional journalists that requires constant review and updating, professional verification, and practical optimization.
