Scientific Activity

The Department of Journalism and Ukrainian Studies is a powerful center for scientific research in the field of Ukrainian studies and journalism studies. The leadingdirections of scientific inquiryin the department arethe issues of domestic and foreign historiography, Ukrainian linguistics, the theory and history of journalism.

The faculty of the department successfully completed two state budget research topics on the problem of"The Liberation War of the Ukrainian People in the Mid-17th Century in Foreign Historiography"(head – Ph.D. in History, Associate Professor V.I. Tsybulskyi), which united leading historical scholars of Ukraine. Historiographical research has continued in the following areas: the history of the Liberation War of the Ukrainian People in the Mid-17th Century (Ph.D. in History, Associate Professor V.I. Tsybulskyi, Senior Lecturer V.M. Hrom); the history of Volhynia (Ph.D. in History, Associate Professor O.H. Porovchuk, Ph.D. in Philosophy, Associate Professor S.M. Humenyuk); the history of judicial institutions and law in Volhynia in the 16th – 17th centuries (Ph.D. in History, Associate Professor O.V. Krupka), Ukrainian historiography of the 20th century, the issues of the scientific life of the Ukrainian diaspora (Ph.D. in History, Associate Professor H.D. Klynova-Datsyuk). In 2015-2019, research was conducted within the framework of the departmental scientific issue "The History of Education and Science in Volhynia" (state registration No. 0116U007387), one of the aspects of which is the study of the over 100-year history of the National University of Water Management and Nature Use. Since 2020, research has been ongoing within the framework of the scientific theme"The History of Higher Education and Science in Ukraine and the Diaspora: Traditions, Figures, Schools"(state registration No. 0120U103230, head – Ph.D. in History, Associate Professor H.D. Klynova-Datsyuk).

In modern conditions, scientific and research work of the department on"Ukrainian Scientific Terminology at the Beginning of the 21st Century: Theoretical and Applied Aspects"(state registration No. 0116 U007388; head – Ph.D. in Philology, Associate Professor L.D. Malievych), within which research on the issues of Ukrainian scientific and technical terminology and terminography has been successfully conducted (Ph.D. in Philology, Associate Professor L.D. Malievych, Ph.D. in Philology, Associate Professor M.M. Dziuba, Assistant I.O. Sydorchuk) and Ukrainian folk terminology (Ph.D. in Philology, Associate Professor S.V. Shiyka). Since 2020, the researchers of the department have been conducting researchTheoretical aspects of the formation and functioning of the lexical system of the Ukrainian language and the problems of linguodidactics in higher education(state registration No. 0120U103026, supervisor – candidate of philological sciences, associate professor M.M. Dziuba).

Important and productive areas of scientific research of the department have become studies in the field oftheory and history of journalism, theory of social communications, theory of publishing and editing, in particular, literary journalism, author editing, and onomastics (doctor of philological sciences, professor V.M. political communicatology, mediatization of politics (Ph.D., Prof. Finkler Y.E., Ph.D. in Political Science, Associate Professor Shinkaruk L.A.),
applied social communication technologies, network communications (Ph.D. in Social Communications, Associate Professor Sukharevskaya G.V.),
reception of postmodernism in Ukrainian and Polish media (Ph.D. in Social Communications, Associate Professor Popil D.Y.),

According to the results of scientific research, the faculty of the department has published more than 1000 scientific works in Ukraine and abroad, including in specialized publications that are included in international scientometric databases, organized and published 19 collections of scientific works and documents, 16 monographs, and compiled 2 dictionaries recommended by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The department's researchers actively collaborate with leading Ukrainian studies scientific and educational institutions in Ukraine and abroad, including the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Language Information Fund of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, the Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies, the Institute of Volyn Studies (Canada), the Institute of Russian Studies, Ukrainian Studies, and Slavic Studies at Prešov University (Slovakia), the Institute of Slavic Studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany), and others.
