General Information
The separate department of 'Electrotechnics and Automation' first appeared when, according to the government's decree in 1959, the Kyiv Engineering Melioration Institute was relocated to Rivne. This newly established institution was granted the status of a republic-wide university and named the Ukrainian Institute of Water Management Engineers. The department of electrotechnics and automation was located at 17 September Street (now V. Chornovola), where most of the laboratories of the automation department and computer-integrated technologies and robotics are still situated today.
In 1959, the department staff comprised five members of the teaching and laboratory staff. The department was headed by an invited associate professor from Lviv, H.M. Shilemetyev, who made significant efforts to create a powerful laboratory base at that time.
Until 1988, the department was general engineering and provided the study of electrotechnical profile disciplines and automation of technological processes for students. From 1972 to 1980, the head of the department was Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor O.M. Franchuk, who contributed greatly to the further development of the department’s laboratory base, attracting new personnel with academic degrees and titles, and improving the scientific and methodological support of the educational process. During this period, the department's faculty included associate professors S.Yu. Bocharov, Ya.V. Danchenkov, V.V. Drevetsky, B.A. Lozin, Yu.I. Ivanchенко, B.S. Marchuk, Yu.Ya. Serdobintsev, O.M. Franchuk, B.A. Bakhovets, senior lecturers V.M. Arsenyuk, I.V. Masnovaeva, H.R. Rachynsky, N.I. Rachynska, Ya.V. Tkachuk, V.R. Tabensky, A.P. Yatsuk, assistants G.M. Yurchievska, G.P. Horyunov, V.Y. Pastushenko.
Since 1989, the department became a graduating one, starting the preparation of specialists in the specialization 'Automation of Hydromelioration Systems' for students of hydroengineering. From 1990, the head of the department was Professor B.A. Bakhovets. During this time, preparations began for opening the specialty 'Automated Control of Technological Processes' (ACTP). In 1997, the first students were admitted to this specialty, and the training of specialists in automation of hydromelioration systems continued until 2001.
In 2002, the first graduation in the specialty ACTP took place. In total, several hundred masters and over 1000 specialists were trained in full-time and part-time forms of education. Most of the graduates of the department work in their specialty at enterprises in Rivne, Rivne region, other regions of Ukraine, and abroad.
In 2011, the Department of Electrotechnics and Automation was split into two departments: the Department of Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies and the Department of Instrument Engineering, Electrotechnics, and Information Technologies. In 2013, a new department was created based on the Departments of Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies and Instrument Engineering, Electrotechnics, and Information Technologies – Automation, Electrotechnical and Computer-Integrated Technologies, with Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V.V. Drevetsky elected as its head.
The further development of the department began. In 2013, an important specialty for our region, ‘Electrotechnics and Electrotechnologies,’ was licensed. New laboratories were created – 'Theoretical Foundations of Electrotechnics,' 'High-Voltage Equipment,' and ongoing modernization of the existing ones occurred.
In 2025, the name of the department was changed to 'Automation, Computer-Integrated Technologies, and Robotics' and the specialty 'Electric Power Engineering, Electrotechnics, and Electromechanics' was separated with its support group to the Department of 'Energy'.
Every year, bachelor and master students studying at the department take prize-winning places in nationwide Olympiads in electrotechnics and automation, become prize-winners of nationwide competitions for student scientific works, and participate in international scientific and practical conferences. Students and faculty members of the department are laureates of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine awards, named after M. Hrushevskyi, the head of the Rivne Regional Administration, named after Ivan Vyhovsky (Poland), and others.
Cooperation with universities in Poland, Great Britain, and others is expanding under the 'Erasmus Plus' program concerning student exchanges for study and internships, as well as for faculty internships at leading universities in both countries.
The department closely collaborates with local employers and leading companies in the field of automation – LLC 'Cersanit Invest,' PJSC 'Volyn-Cement,' SE 'Siemens Ukraine,' PJSC 'Rivneazot,' and others.
