Summer Tech Startup School Demo Day at NUWGP: International Partnerships, Innovations, and New Opportunities for Students

At the National University of Water Management and Nature Resources Use, aSummer Tech Startup School Demo Day– final event of the Summer School of Technological Startups took place, which became a platform for presenting student innovative projects, professional dialogue, and the development of international academic partnerships.

Demo Day brought together students, teachers, mentors, business representatives, and international experts who collaboratively assessed promising technological solutions created by school participants. Over several weeks, teams worked on their own startups, refining them with the support of experienced mentors, and the final event was an opportunity to present the results of their work to a broad expert audience.

Welcome remarks were made to participants by the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations of NUWMP, Professor Natalia Savina, the head of the Center for Innovative Activity and Grant Work, Vita Chaban, as well as the university's international partner – John Gelsom, CEO of Seven Informatics Ltd, Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria (Canada), and visiting professor at NUWMP. His presence marked another step in developing a long-term international partnership between the university and leading representatives of the global IT community. 

The collaboration between NUWMP and Professor John Gelsom has been ongoing for several years and covers a wide range of areas: from guest lectures and expert mentoring to the development of international educational initiatives, support for student entrepreneurship, the implementation of modern approaches to digital transformation, and establishing connections between the university and high-tech business. Such interaction is a vivid example of the effective combination of academic education, science, and practical experience of the international industry.

During the event, six student startups addressing current challenges of modernity were presented. The teams showcased solutions in the fields of energy resource management, artificial intelligence, financial technologies, Web3, digital educational tools, and satellite data processing. Each project demonstrated a high level of technical readiness among the students and their ability to apply modern technologies to solve real practical problems. Each team received professional feedback from international and Ukrainian experts, which allowed the students not only to refine their own developments but also to gain valuable recommendations for further commercialization, business model development, and entry into international markets.

Project evaluation was conducted by an expert jury, which included representatives of the university's administration, leading scholars, and international experts. This format allowed participants to receive not only professional feedback but also recommendations for further development of their ideas, refinement of business models, and exploration of opportunities for international expansion.

An important component of Demo Day was the networking session, which created a space for communication among students, teachers, experts, and international partners. Such meetings foster new professional connections, promote the emergence of joint research and innovative projects, and also open up prospects for students in international cooperation.

The holding of the Summer Tech Startup School Demo Day is yet another confirmation that NUWMP systematically develops the university's innovative ecosystem, combining education, science, entrepreneurship, and international partnership. Thanks to cooperation with Ukrainian and foreign experts, students have the opportunity to work on real challenges, enhance their competencies, and integrate into the global innovation community.

One of the important directions of the university's international activities remains the development of long-term partnerships with representatives of the academic community and high-tech business. The long-term collaboration of NUWMP with Professor John Gelsom is an example of how international expertise can be effectively integrated into the educational process, supporting the development of student initiatives, technological entrepreneurship, and a culture of innovation.
