New Horizons of Cooperation: Feedback from the NUWGP Delegation on the Visit to the University of Saints Cyril and Methodius (Slovakia)
Recently, our delegation consisting of the Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations Natalia Savina, Professor Dmytro Nikitenko, and leading specialist of the International Cooperation Center Halyna Vlasiyuk returned from the city of Trnava (Slovakia). As part of the Erasmus+ KA171 academic mobility program, we visited the University of Saints Cyril and Methodius (UCM) — and we want to share our impressions and achievements.
Impressions of the university and colleaguesUCM in Trnava pleasantly surprised us with its modernity and dynamism. It is indeed a powerful hub of higher education in Central Europe. We were greeted very warmly, and the work was maximally productive. I would especially like to note the meaningful discussions with UCM's Vice-Rector for International Relations, Professor Andrea Chajkova. By the way, we have already agreed on her visit in response to Rivne at the end of July 2025 to continue our dialogue.
We also had a wonderful opportunity to work with representatives of the international department, project manager of the Faculty of Journalism Mr. Mike, and colleagues from various faculties. During the workshop with the Department of Tourism, we already started planning joint participation in the INTERREG program.
What did we agree on? Strategic directions for NUWGPOur visit was focused on practical steps. We outlined 5 key areas where our universities will develop joint projects:

Economics and Management:focus on green growth, digital economy, and sustainable development.

Hydroecology and Water Resources:an extremely relevant area for us, considering the challenges of climate change and water management in wartime.

Healthcare:we plan to learn from the experience in crisis management, public and mental health.

IT and digital technologies:joint projects in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and IT infrastructure for smart cities.

Journalism:research on misinformation, crisis communication, and internships at UCM media centers.
What will this give our students and teachers?There is much work ahead, but the prospects are inspiring. We discussed the implementation of innovative COIL courses (Collaborative Online International Learning with foreign students), the possibility of dual education, organization of summer schools, and, of course, expanding programs of physical and virtual academic mobility for students, postgraduates, and teachers.
As Prorector Natalia Savina aptly summarized the results of the trip:
"Participation in the Erasmus+ program is not just mobility; it is a shared future in which Ukrainian education is not an object of aid but a full-fledged partner in the transformation of the European educational space."
We returned with a clear understanding: the European community is open to us, and Ukrainian universities are ready for integration and building new bridges.
