Foundation and First Steps (1966–1980)

• The Department of Computing Engineering is the successor to the Department of Computational Mathematics, which was established in September 1966 by splitting the Department of Higher Mathematics of the Ukrainian Institute of Engineers of Water Management (now the National University of Water Management and Nature Resource Use, NUVGP).wiki.nuwm.edu.ua)
• At the beginning, the department had a laboratory base consisting of two electronic computing machines: 'Promin' and 'Promin-2'. Later, various computers of the types 'Myr', 'Nairi', 'Minsk-32', ES-1022, ES-1033 were used.wiki.nuwm.edu.ua)
• In the 1980s, the department underwent changes: in 1980, the Information and Computing Center separated from it and became autonomous.wiki.nuwm.edu.ua)
• In 1987, the need for a personal computer laboratory arose in the department; this unit later transformed into a department for small computers.wiki.nuwm.edu.ua)

A Period of Change and Modernization (1980-2000)

• In the 1990s, the computer base and local networks developed particularly actively. In 1999, the first local network PC XT was introduced in the department.wiki.nuwm.edu.ua)
• The acquisition of IBM-386 and IBM-586 computers for educational and scientific laboratories was a significant step forward in material and technical support.wiki.nuwm.edu.ua)
• In the mid-1990s and at the turn of the 2000s, the department actively developed new disciplines, teaching methods, and adapted educational plans to changes in rapidly evolving computer technologies. • In September 1997, a reorganization took place: the Department of Computational Mathematics was divided, and a new department was formed - 'Information Systems and Mathematical Modeling', which is now known as the Department of Applied Mathematics.wiki.nuwm.edu.ua)

·         Re-equipping, New Directions, Accreditation (2000 - Present)

·         In 2013, the Department of Computational Mathematics was renamed to the Department of Computing Engineering. In the same year, licensing of the specialty 123 'Computer Engineering' took place, as well as the opening of the specialty 'Computer Science' at the bachelor's level.

·         In 2015, the specialty 'Computer Engineering' successfully passed accreditation from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

·         In 2019, accreditation of the master's level educational program in the specialty 'Computer Engineering' took place (certificate No. 18008388 dated 25.02.2019).

·         In 2020, accreditation was received for the bachelor's educational program in the specialty 'Computer Engineering' (certificate No. 336 dated 26.05.2020).

·         In 2023, the department launched a new educational program 'Information Security'.

·         In 2024, accreditation was conducted for educational programs of the first (bachelor's) and second (master's) levels of higher education in the specialty 'Computer Engineering'.

·         Today, the Department of Computing Engineering continues to develop, preparing specialists in information technology and computer engineering, responding to modern challenges and market needs.
