The history of the department dates back to 1971, when the Department of Water Management Economics was established at the then Institute of Water Management Engineers. The department trained engineers-economists for Ukraine's water management sector. Over the years, the department's name changed, the faculty composition evolved, and certain traditions were formed.
Specialties for which training was conducted:
- 1975 – 1994 years trained specialists in the field of "Economics and Management in the Agricultural Industrial Complex";
- From 1995 to 2015, training of specialists in the field of "Enterprise Economics" was conducted.
In 2016, the first enrollment of students for the specialty "Entrepreneurship, Trade, and Stock Market Activity" was conducted.
In 2019, the Department of Enterprise Economics was merged with the Departments of Economic Theory and International Economics. This allowed for the strengthening of the scientific and educational potential of the updated department. The Department of Economic Theory provided the necessary foundational training in the theoretical economics cycle, while the Department of International Economics cultivated applied knowledge and practical skills in matters of foreign economic activity, international trade, finance, and global economic processes. Since then, the department has been named the Department of Enterprise Economics and International Business and trains specialists under three educational and professional programs at the first (bachelor's) level and two at the second (master's) level.
Over the years, the department has been headed by: senior lecturer V.M. Krasnoshtan, PhD in Agricultural Sciences; associate professor A.S. Hordiichuk, Doctor of Economic Sciences; professor K.I. Shava, PhD in Economics; associate professor Y.V. Korkhov, PhD in Economics; associate professor E.A. Zin, Doctor of Economic Sciences; professor V.P. Polozhiy, PhD in Economics; associate professor O.M. Rikhtser, PhD in Technology; professor S.M. Hontcharov, PhD in Economics; professor N.B. Kushnir.
The head of the department is currently Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Oleksandr Mykolayovych Harnaha.
The purpose of the department's activities- ensuring high-quality training of competitive specialists in the field of entrepreneurship and commerce, international economic relations through the combination of educational, scientific, and innovative activities, the development of economic thinking, analytical skills, and practical competencies in accordance with the needs of the modern economy and society.
