Hydrotechnical Laboratory

• Large hydraulic laboratory with experimental and educational laboratory installations;
• River laboratory.

Large hydraulic laboratory covers an area of 545 sq.m. The laboratory includes a pumping station with an area of 97.5 sq.m with seven pumping units that provide water supply to the experimental installations of 3 laboratories in the building.

The hydraulic laboratory houses the following installations for conducting scientific research and laboratory work in the course of hydraulic structures:

• large mirror flume measuring 1x1 m, with a length of 38.8 m. The end section of the flume, measuring 15.6 m, can change the slope from 0 to 0.0256. In terms of size and applicability, the flume has no analogues either in Ukraine or in the CIS.
  The maximum flow rate of the model is 500 l/s. The flume is equipped with measuring equipment: measuring overflow, stationary and movable notch scales. The flume is used by graduate students and researchers in their studies.

• large concrete flume with a width of 2 m, height of 1 m, and length of 15 m. Maximum flow rate 300 l/s. Equipped with a measuring overflow and notch scales (stationary and movable);
• small mirror flume measuring 0.5x0.5 m, length of 10 m. Equipped with notch scales and measuring overflow. The flume has an installation for studying the dynamic action of vessels when colliding with the side walls of navigable locks;

 Installations for conducting laboratory work on the course

1. Operative model of a navigable lock. Main dimensions: length 1.4 m, width 0.17 m, main and distribution feeding systems.
2. Operating models of hydraulic structures:
   1. fast-flow, width 0.2 m, length 4 m, slope 0.05;
   2. drop - width 0.3 m, total length 3.9 m, number of steps - 3, length of step - 0.9 m, flow rate up to 20 l/s;
3. Installation for studying water intakes and semi-dams. Main dimensions: length 3 m, width 1 m, height 0.4 m, flow rate up to 20 l/s.
4. Operating model of a water intake unit (authors I.I. Kyryienko, A.K. Klimuk).
5. Filtration flume No. 1 (model of an earth dam). Length 2.0 m, height 0.5 m, width 0.24 m.
6. Filtration flume No. 2 (model of a flume beta). Length 1.0 m, height 0.5 m, width 0.125 m.
7. River laboratory. Total area 370 sq.m. It contains 5 pressure tanks with measuring overflows, a flume measuring 1.3x0.9 m, length 8.5 m, flow rate up to 250 l/s, and a river platform measuring 5x15 m for studying planned models of hydraulic junctions and hydraulic structures.
   1. Maximum flow rate up to 500 l/s.
   2. Research is conducted on secondary currents and water discharges in the flume. Planned models of hydraulic junctions that have been studied often serve as visual aids for students (demonstration models).
