Summer Tech Startup School Demo Day

The National University of Water and Environmental Engineering (NUWEE) hosted the Summer Tech Startup School Demo Day, the final event of the Summer Tech Startup School, which served as a platform for showcasing student innovation projects, fostering professional dialogue, and strengthening international academic partnerships.

The Demo Day brought together students, faculty members, mentors, business representatives, and international experts who jointly evaluated the promising technological solutions developed by the participants of the school. Over the course of several weeks, teams worked on their own startups, refining them with the support of experienced mentors, while the final event provided an opportunity to present the results of their work to a broad expert audience.

Opening remarks were delivered by Professor Nataliia Savina, Vice-Rector for Research and International Relations at NUWEE; Vita Chaban, Head of the Center for Innovation Activities and Grant Work; and the university's international partner, John Jelsom, CEO of Seven Informatics Ltd, Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria (Canada), and Visiting Professor at NUWEE. His presence marked another important step in the development of the long-term international partnership between the university and leading representatives of the global IT community.

The collaboration between NUWEE and Professor John Jelsom has been ongoing for several years and covers a wide range of areas, including guest lectures, expert mentoring, the development of international educational initiatives, support for student entrepreneurship, the implementation of modern approaches to digital transformation, and the establishment of stronger connections between the university and the high-tech business sector. This cooperation serves as a vivid example of the effective integration of academic education, research, and practical experience from the international technology industry.

During the event, six student startups addressing contemporary challenges were presented. The teams showcased solutions in the fields of energy resource management, artificial intelligence, financial technologies, Web3, digital educational tools, and satellite data processing. Each project demonstrated the students' high level of technical expertise and their ability to apply modern technologies to solve real-world practical problems. Every team received professional feedback from both international and Ukrainian experts, enabling students not only to improve their solutions but also to gain valuable recommendations regarding commercialization opportunities, business model development, and entry into international markets.

The projects were evaluated by an expert jury composed of university leadership representatives, leading researchers, and international experts. This format allowed participants to receive not only professional feedback but also recommendations for further development of their ideas, improvement of business models, and identification of opportunities for international expansion.

An important component of the Demo Day was the networking session, which created a space for interaction among students, faculty members, experts, and international partners. Such meetings foster new professional connections, encourage the emergence of joint research and innovation projects, and open new opportunities for students to engage in international collaboration.

The Summer Tech Startup School Demo Day is yet another confirmation that NUWEE is systematically developing the university's innovation ecosystem by integrating education, research, entrepreneurship, and international partnerships. Through cooperation with Ukrainian and international experts, students gain the opportunity to work on real-world challenges, enhance their competencies, and become part of the global innovation community.

One of the university's key priorities in international activities remains the development of long-term partnerships with representatives of academia and the high-tech business sector. The long-standing cooperation between NUWEE and Professor John Jelsom demonstrates how international expertise can be effectively integrated into the educational process, supporting the development of student initiatives, technological entrepreneurship, and a culture of innovation.
